Beginning Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, Panopto is enacting a new default video archiving policy. The archiving of identified videos will begin January 14, 2022. Under the terms of this policy, any Panopto video that has not been viewed in thirteen months will automatically be archived. Once a video has been archived, it will no longer appear in the folder view in Panopto, and it will not be available for immediate viewing; however, all users have the ability to restore the video. You can restore an archived video for viewing either from Panopto’s search results or from the Panopto Viewer itself by using the direct URL to the video. For more information, please see the article How to Restore Archived Content.

Once you have requested that an archived video be restored, the process can take up to 48 hours. When it is complete, you will receive an email with a link that allows you to view the video in the Panopto Viewer.

Please note: this archiving policy does not apply to departmental folders or to users’ personal folders (My Folder). Videos located in these folders will be retained indefinitely.

If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact Academic Technology Solutions. You can also stop by our Office Hours to ask any questions you may have about Panopto or other tools for teaching with technology.
